Poplar Counselling

Privacy Statement

In order to provide you with the best service possible our counsellors will need to hold your personal contact details and records of your therapy sessions.

Your privacy is very important to us. You can be confident that your personal information will be kept safely and securely and will only be used for the purpose it was given to us.

What information will we store?

Your counsellor will hold your contact details (phone or email), your name, any notes and records they make of your sessions, any correspondance between the two of you (such as emails and texts).

How information is stored

Any information stored electronically, such as emails, texts, and phone numbers, will be stored on password-protected devices which have anti-virus software installed. Any information held on paper, such as notes and records of sessions, will be kept in a locked cabinet. Notes and records of sessions will not contain your name and will be kept separately from your contact details.

Supervision

Counsellors are required to have regular supervision support with a counselling supervisor who is also an experienced counsellor. As part of their supervision, your counsellor may at times discuss aspects of your sessions. However, this would be done without identifying you, and your counsellor’s supervisor will abide by the BACP’s code of ethics regarding confidentiality.

Exceptions in the case of significant risk

We take confidentiality very seriously. However, we may need to break confidentially if there is a significant risk of serious harm to yourself and others, including issues relating to child protection and vulnerable adults, but we would always discuss this with you first if at all possible. We may also be legally required to share information relating to serious crime, such as terrorism, drug-trafficking, and money laundering.
